WELCOME & INTRODUCTIONS

II. 5 min BUDGET & ADMINISTRATION               
  A. Approval of 28 October Meeting Summary

The Committee unanimously approved the 28 October 2006 meeting Summary.

  B. 2006-07 Budget & Sales to Date

Scott reported that the committee has $32.7K for 2007.   He also reported that the IEEE-USA BoD is encouraging committees to apply for funding for projects from the IEEE-USA Voluntary Contributions Fund.

Scott reported that the sales for the Salary Survey were lower than anticipated in 2006 but there will be a new business plan in place that will address this in 2007.

III. 40 min PRODUCT & SERVICES UPDATE (Please Review Action Plan Prior to the Meeting)
  A. Engineering Skills Symposium  

Peggy Hucheson shared with the committee a proposal to hold an Engineering Skills Symposium. The Committee agreed it was a good idea.   The committee agreed to discuss further via telecon after this meeting.
  B. JibberJobber (Grayson)

Scott reported that the committee provided a favorable review of the JibberJobber product.  The Committee recommended moving forward with adding JibberJobber to our Career and Employment products and services
  C. EmploymentNavigator

Scott reported that he has received many positive comments regarding the new Employment Navigator.  The enhanced EmploymentNavigator is being powered by SimplyHired and may expand to other IEEE non U.S. Regions. The first will be Region 7 (Canada).
  D. Webinars (Wilcox/Hutcheson)

The committee successfully scheduled five webinars during 2006.  Each webinar averaged 30-40 registrants but usually had between 8-20 participants.  The Committee discussed charging a modest fee to ensure registrants attend the webinar once they have registered.

  E. Career Checkup  (Elliott/Hutcheson)
Scott, Peggy, Chuck and John Yaglenski (webmaster) will set up a meeting to discuss how the Career Checkup will be displayed on the web.
  F. eBooks (Grayson)

The Committee recommended the following eBook titles for 2007. The Committee will discuss an action plan for accomplishing this task on their next teleconference.

  • Networking Job Fairs
  • Employment Law (Patents, Liability, Ethics)
  G. CareerNavigator
Scott reported that the CareerNavigator is being looked at, by all IEEE members, as a one stop shopping portal page for career and employment needs.  He also referred to the work of the IEEE Career Services Committee that is designing a website that will promote all career, employment and educational products and services to the members.
  F. ECS Virtual Community
Scott reported that the ECS Community continues to be the most successful IEEE Community as measured by numbers of users, discussion threads and individual postings. Scott also reported that he and Helen Hall will work this year to organize and clean up the community while deleting old job postings.
IV. 10 min IEEE-Wide Career & Professional Development Activities
  1. IEEE-USA "Annual" Meeting

    Committee members have agreed to participate in sessions to be held at the Annual Meeting.  During the brainstorming session committee members recommended topics.
     
  2. IEEE Careers Committee (Eason/Grayson)

    Jean reported that the IEEE Careers Committee has had several meetings during the past year. The Committee will be designing a website that will be arranged in a way to meet the needs of members in different career/life stages.
     
  3. Liaison with IEEE-USA Career Workforce Policy Committee

    Tarek reported on the activities of the Career Workforce Policy Committee.
     
  4. Discussions with Region 7 & 8  (Grayson)

    Scott reported that the three Ps (President, Past President, and President elect and he meet with other regions directors and representatives on an on going basis, during the Board series luncheons to discuss how IEEE-USA can work with them to promote employment, career, and professional development.
V. 10 min Survey Updates
  1. Salary Survey, Database & Calculator (Grayson)
    Scott reported on the progress of the change in the business plan for the salary survey.  We will provide members who fill out the survey 5 free uses of the salary calculator per year. If they need more uses they can purchase those for a reasonable price.  Employers will be able to purchase both an unlimited year subscription to the salary calculator and the salary database.
     
  2. Employment Survey (Grayson)
    Scott reported that the Employment Survey is now an eBook.
     
  3. IEEE-USA Career Workforce Policy Intergenerational Survey (Grayson/Hutcheson)
    The committee reviewed the CWPC intergenerational survey and asked what the purpose of this survey was.  [Subsequent to this meeting Scott talked to Paul Kostek who explained the survey was not being conducted by the CWPC but by he and Dr. Trudy. Paul Kostek was the recipient of the grant not the Committee].  Additionally, IEEE Research has become involved and has suggested different wording, questions and format in some instances.
VI. 3 hours 2007 Goal Setting & Work Plan (Hutcheson)

The Committee plans to discuss these items in a telecon to be scheduled in April 2007.
