Award for
Distinguished Literary Contributions
Furthering Engineering Professionalism
Purpose
This award recognizes individuals who have made
outstanding contributions through their literary efforts to the advancement of the
professional objectives of the IEEE in the United States. These objectives include serving
IEEE members, the profession, and the public in the areas of economic, ethical,
legislative, social, and technology policy concerns.
Form of Recognition
Engraved plaque.
Frequency
Nominations and suggestions will be considered at
the meeting of the IEEE-USA Awards and Recognition Committee convened for selecting annual
IEEE-USA awards or by a special panel convened by the Committee Chair at any time.
Recommendations for this awards require the approval of the IEEE-USA Board of Directors,
and may be submitted for approval at any scheduled Board meeting.
Basis
Consideration will be given to the quality of the
piece and the contributions made by the author as a result of a singular important
literary effort, or as the result of contributions over a period of time or a career that
has included numerous contributions which, taken as a whole, reflect effort to communicate
successfully and enhance engineering professionalism in appropriate areas of concern such
as economics, ethics, legislation, and social and technology policy.
Judging
By the IEEE-USA Awards & Recognition Committee
or a special panel appointed and convened by the Chair. Since this award is not
circumscribed by time constraints, but by quality and impact of the contribution(s), the
development of considerations will be the responsibility of the Committee or the special
panel.
Nominations
Nominations may be sent to the Committee at any
time, accompanied by samples or citations of the literary efforts and a background
narrative supporting the rationale for the nomination.

No current member of the IEEE Board of Directors,
the IEEE-USA Board of Directors, the IEEE-USA Awards and Recognition Committee, or IEEE
staff may be candidates, or nominate or endorse candidates for this award.
Presentation
Presentation will be made by the IEEE-USA
President or designee at an appropriate event mutually agreeable to IEEE-USA and the
recipient, desirably where the impact of the award presentation will afford maximum
recognition to the recipient and to IEEE.
Funding
IEEE-USA shall provide suitable funds for the
award and the expense of judging and presentation.
