History of IEEE-USA's
Executive Fellowships

I would also like to put in a good word for the IEEE-USA Executive Fellowship program. This is just an outstanding way to get some wonderful industry people into the government. Everybody wins!--Dr. Mary L. Good, former Under Secretary for Technology, U.S. Department of Commerce.

ENGINEERING & DIPLOMACY FELLOWSHIP

IEEE-USA is currently seeking applications for a Engineering & Diplomacy Fellowship at the United States Department of State to begin in January 2007  The application deadline is 20 Feb. 2006.

IEEE-USA's Executive Fellows Program was founded in 1991 at the request of the Deputy Secretary of Commerce and with support from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to assist the Commerce Department's new Technology Administration in advancing U.S. competitiveness in electronics, manufacturing, and technology.

Taking advantage of opportunities and requests for assistance, the Program expanded to encompass Executive Fellowship opportunities at other Executive Branch Departments and agencies, including the President's Office of Science and Technology Policy and the Federal Communications Commission.

In 2002, Dr. Norman Neureiter, then Science and Technology Advisor to the U.S. Department of State, invited IEEE-USA to establish an Engineering & Diplomacy Fellowship Program at the State Department.  This became the focus of IEEE-USA's Executive Fellowship program, with our first Fellows - Drs. Donald Silversmith and Richard Lamb -  placed in 2003.
