Engineering Ethics


IEEE-USA strongly promotes professional responsibility and the ethical practice of engineering by IEEE members as a fundamental obligation to the profession and the communities that we serve.

IEEE-USA/IEEE Resources:

The IEEE Ethics and Member Conduct Committee serves as a resource for the public, the profession, and for individual engineers faced with ethical decisions in their practice. 
The IEEE Code of Ethics a statement of the ethical standards of professional conduct to which all IEEE members are committed.
Ethics Resources and Organizations -- a list of links to on-line ethics resources compiled by IEEE's Ethics and Member Conduct Committee as an information resource for IEEE members.
Engineering Ethics Lecture Materials A speaker's kit for lecturers on engineering ethics, with information geared to both engineering students and practicing engineers. Kits can be borrowed and returned or purchased for $10. To request a kit, contact Sandra Kim.

Other Resources 

The National Society of Professional Engineers provides ethics resources for engineers of all disciplines.
The On-Line Ethics Center for Science and Engineering at Case Western Reserve University seeks to provide engineers, scientists and students with resources for understanding and addressing ethically significant problems that arise in their work.
The National Institute for Engineering Ethics at Texas Tech University seeks to encourage encourage cooperation among individuals, universities, professional and technical societies and business organizations with regard to engineering ethics and professionalism issues
The Web Clearinghouse for Engineering and Computer Ethics provides links to a host of websites with resources on ethics and professional responsibility for engineering and computer professionals.
The Government Accountability Project provides survival tips for "whistle-blowers."
